Conglomerate company - a large company that owns subsidiary companies. Disney, BBC, Universal, Activision 

Subsidiary - a smaller company that is owned by a larger company. MARVEL, HatTricks. 

Independent company - a company that is not owned by another company or owns any other companies, not owned by a conglomerate but works with other companies for profit (joint venture). 4 Lions

One product produced by a independent company - Ghost stories 

Synergy -choosing the most affective method of marketing using your synergies to maximise your success for brand. Releasing more products/companies to maximise the promotion of the brand to make more money. (horizontal integration, cross promotion) 


(3a) An independent company works with a joint venture to increase profit and make marketing easier. The benefits of this is that both companies would benefit from profit, meaning they will get more money, or from getting marketing cheeper and be able to market their products across different medias. An example of an independent company would be HatTricks and Channel 4 are examples of a joint venture and .... Girls being their product. 


(3b) One disadvantage of being an independent company would be that marketing on cross media production would be harder, for they would have to pay for advertising on different media platforms, to do meaning their products will not be as successful or may not get as many views. This is also called financial stress, an example of a company that may suffer from this could be WARP films for they will be fighting with DISNEY being a conglomerate. Zoomo digital struggled to promote their product and get it launched for they needed Microsoft to allow it. 

Another disadvantage of being an independent company would be that companies would struggle to get the knowledge from other companies.

(5) A post-production job role would be an editor for the audio makes sure the soundtrack fits the visual footage for animation, for a film for example Star Wars. For example Ben Burtt is the audio editor for Star Wars. 

Another post-production job role for a media product being Star Wars would be the visual editor Lee Smith, this job role contributes to the Star Wars movies for he edits the visual footage and adds the visual effects.

 Give an example of a media theory that links with negative media effects?  Cultivation theory  What is desensitisation?  If we see something that is horrifying or violent and we see it more often we then become used to seeing it.  What is moral panic? An instance of public/mass media concern or 'panic' in response to a media product that is regarded as threatening to certain groups or debasing agreed moral standards with society (Stanley Cohen, 1972).  What is the uses and gratifications theory? When people use media to gratify the use of media for example escapism (movies/series/Slasher), surveillance (ITV News), building relationships (Snapchat), building identity (Instagram/Molly-Mae).
